The online KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) took place on Monday, November 23, 2020 through the Live Streaming program which could be watched on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from John 5: 1-18 about a healing on the Sabbath at the pool of Bethesda.
Had Been Sick for 38 Years Got Healed by Jesus
John 5: 1-4 tells us that Jesus came to the porch of the pool of Bethesda where multitude sick people laid there. Some were blind, lame, and paralyzed. They waited for the angel to come and stir the water in the pool. When the water was stirring, those who entered the pool the first would be healed. We can imagine if at this time there was a pool like that, there would be many sick people waiting for the water to stir.
Furthermore, in John 5: 5-15 it is said that there was a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years. The sick person was always late to reach the pool, when the pool water was stirring, because he was paralyzed. Thirty-eight years was not a short time, maybe he had gone to the doctors, but he didn’t get well. Finally, he only waited by the pool to wait for a miracle from God.
The Israelites did believe in miracles because many miracles occurred in the journey of their ancestors. They knew they were slaves who had been delivered from Egypt. There were many miracles in the history of their lives. There were pillars of cloud and fire during their journey in the wilderness. They believe that the angel is the messenger of God. And If the angel came to stir the water of the pool, then the sick will be healed.
For thirty-eight years this man waited for a miracle from God to come. He could have been trying to jump into the pool so many times, but the others would do it first. However, he still believed that God could heal him. He kept on believing that an angel of God would come to stir the pool water. This was his condition, until one day Jesus came and healed him.
Who is Jesus? Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is God Himself. It was Him who sent an angel to stir the water of the pool. Jesus knew that the man had been sick for thirty-eight years. There were multitude sick people on the porch, but Jesus came especially for this one man who was paralyzed.
So Jesus asked, “Do you want to be made well?” This sick man had not known who Jesus was so he answered with his own mindset, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” This man did not know Jesus, perhaps because he never heard who Jesus was since he was always lying down by the pool. In the case of Bartimaeus, the blind beggar who was healed by the Lord Jesus, he still heard about Jesus and he believed. On the other hand, this paralyzed man did not know Jesus, but he believed in God, it was evident that he was waiting for a miracle.
Finally, the Lord who was able to stir the pool, He Himself came to meet the sick man, and said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.
Jesus Asks You, “Do You Want to be Made Well?”
Maybe you are now in a sick condition, you are despair or so worried about your salvation. You always hope that God the Creator of heaven and earth will give an answer so that you will be healed and saved. Sometimes your faith decreases but sometimes your faith increases, and the conditions sometimes make your faith stronger or weaker. But you keep on hoping and looking up at the sky and saying, “Lord, help me”. For people like this, believe that God will come to help you.
Just like this the man who had been thirty-years old sick, God knows how many years we have been struggling with our lives. Don’t give up. God loves us very much. John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
God can come at the time we are alone, or we are praying, or when we look up to the sky. He can come to us as He came to the paralytic. Today the Lord asks you, “Do you want to be made well?” Do you want to be delivered from all the troubles that shackle you and make you despair and maybe you want to commit suicide? Do you want to be saved? Will your sins be forgiven? Jesus came to earth to forgive our sins, He shed His blood, He became an offering for our sin, so that we might be saved.
Isaiah 53:5, But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Who was wounded for our transgressions? Jesus. Who was bruised for our iniquities? Jesus. Who receives chastisement, tortures and torment so that we are saved? Jesus. Who has the stripes? Jesus. It is by these stripes of Jesus that we are healed. If you want to come to Jesus, pray, act on your faith and trust in Him.
Jesus came to save us and deliver us from all sicknesses. When we accept Jesus, then we have received the greatest miracle in our lives, which is the salvation.
John 1:12, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.
Because we believe in Him, we have been moved out of darkness into His marvelous light. We are now called the children of God. When we become the children of God, we can ask the Father to be healed. Lay your hands on the part that is sick, just believe that today is the day of miracles. [RS/EM]
