KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) was broadcast again online through the Live Streaming program on Facebook and You Tube on Thursday, 23 April 2020.
God’s Word was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak taken from John 4: 4-42, it is about a conversation with a Samaritan woman.
When at noon Jesus arrived in the city of Shechar in Samaria, He was very tired from His journey and sat down by the Jacob’s well. Then came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her “Give me a drink”.
Jesus, The Source of Living Water
This was a surprising meeting for the woman. First, it was unusual for a man to talk to a woman, as He was a Jew. For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
But Lord Jesus’ request provoked the woman to dare to speak and ask questions that might have been possessing violently in her mind and did not get any answer.
Jesus deliberately opened a conversation like that because He knew there was someone who needed Him, even though Jesus actually did things outside the boundaries.
Then the Samaritan woman said, “How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria?”
In verse 10 we see Jesus’ answer to the woman of Samaria: “If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.”
This is an extraordinary statement, where Jesus talked about the living water, not the water in the well anymore. Now He is speaking that He can provide the living water. The woman responded by saying: “Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?”
Whoever drinks the living water, will not thirst forever.
Jesus answered and said unto her, “Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
Jesus preached who He is, He can give you the eternal living water. This woman had problems, she was thirsty for solutions, she might had already tried to find according to her belief but did not get it yet.
And she who was thirsty and needed hope, met with Jesus, the living water.
So when Jesus asked the woman to call her husband, and Jesus knew that she already had five husbands and who was now with her was not her husband, this woman knew that Jesus was not an ordinary Jew.
The woman said, “Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.”
Jesus showed how He is the All-Knowing God, when answering her questions. Until finally she said: “I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.”
Jesus said to her: ” I that speak unto thee am he.”
This truth-hungry Samaritan woman believed, and she got the living water. She ran to preach to the people in her village, and people also believed that Jesus was the Savior of the world.
If we really come and cry out to Him, Jesus will give us the living water drink that will radiate continuously into eternity. There is a way out in Jesus. He is the answer to all problems and illnesses. [rch/lyd]
