The online KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) took place again on Monday, December 7, 2020, through the Live Streaming program which can be watched on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from Luke 1: 26-38 about the announcement of the birth of Jesus.
Christ’s Birth Announced to Mary
Luke 1:26-27, Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.” (Luke 1:30, 31)
The same news was also given to Joseph through a dream (Matthew 1:20-23) that the Son who was born would be great and would be called the Son of the Most High God. And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end. It was really remarkable.
But how could it be, since Maria was still a virgin? Again the angel answered Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. ” (Luke 1:35)
The birth of Jesus could happen not because of Mary having sex with a man but it was truly because of God’s power. And the angel Gabriel told her about Elizabeth, the wife of the priest Zacharias, who were both already old, and she could not possibly be pregnant, but at that time Elizabeth was conceiving a child. The angel said to Mary, “Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.” (Luke 1:36)
It is impossible for a woman who is very old to give birth to a child. Even more,Elizabeth was called barren. But a miracle took place and she became pregnant. The angel wanted to say that what happened to Elizabeth was a miracle because it was impossible for her to conceive. But God can do miracles. Mary could also experience miracles, even greater miracle, because she was a virgin but she could conceive and give birth to a child, only because of the power of the Holy Spirit. Nothing is impossible for God.
How did Maria respond? Luke 1:38 says, “Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”
Jesus is the Messiah Prophesied by the Prophet Isaiah
The time when Mary was visited by the angel Gabriel was the time when the Israelites were waiting for the Messiah, the King who will rule His people forever, which God had promised 1000 years before Mary was visited by the angel. The promise firstly said that the Messiah had to be a descendant of David. In fact, Joseph, Mary’s fiancee was a descendant of David. Then secondly, the Messiah must also be born from a virgin, according to Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” This was prophesied by the prophet Isaiah 700 years before the birth of Jesus.
These two prophecies were fulfilled by Jesus. Jesus’ father was Joseph, a descendant of David. Jesus was born to a virgin, whose mother was Mary. So we believe that the Messiah is Jesus Himself who came down to earth. He will reign forever and will be King over His people. He atoned for the sins of men.
Will you believe that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God Himself, who came down to earth to atone for the sins of men? John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Our debts of sins were paid fully by Jesus Christ. He was like a lamb that was unblemished and blameless. He became the sacrifice for our sins. Jesus was hung on the cross to redeem our sins. He was the Son of God who was willing to become a human being through a miracle in Mary’s womb.
Whoever believes in Jesus, the only begotten of the Father, will not perish but will have eternal life. Your sins will be forgiven. Only Jesus can pay the debt of human sins. With what? By sacrificing Himself. He was crucified on the cross and died, not because He committed sins. The Word of God says there was no sin in Jesus Christ. Therefore He was worthy to become a sin offering because the sin offering must be blameless. Jesus was the unblemished lamb because all through His life He had never sinned. He only did love.
John 1:14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus came as a human being to atone for our sins. He was very powerful to do many miracles but He was willing to die on the cross to atone for the sins of man. The salvation that God designed for us was perfectly planned.
Those who believe in Jesus are called children of God and this is the greatest miracle because we are saved and will be resurrected with Jesus Christ.
Jesus’ Stripes Can Heal You
Nothing is impossible for God. God is able to heal you. God can do all miracles. Just like Mary, who was a virgin, but she could bear a child and give birth to a Son, even the Son of God. Elisabeth was elderly and barren, but she could conceive and give birth to a child. God can do miracles.
Isaiah 53: 5, But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Before being crucified on the cross, Jesus was flogged dozens of times and this caused many stripes all over His body. The scourging made His body was full of stripes. But the Word of God says that by His stripes we are healed.
Jesus bore our sins by dying on the cross and He also bore our sicknesses so that by His stripes we are healed. Whatever our sickness is, if we believe in Him, we can be healed.
For those who have been healed, be a testimony to others. For those who have not been healed, keep on believing in God, by His stripes we are healed. [RS/HN/EM]
