The Online Program of KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) was held on Thursday, April 1, 2021. It was a live-streaming program that could be watched through Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from Luke 22: 39-49 about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The Garden of Gethsemane, the Beginning of the Suffering of Jesus in His Redemption Work

The event of Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane occurred on the last night before Jesus was arrested and finally crucified. Jesus earnestly prayed and experienced a tense situation.

Jesus knew the time had come for Him to die on the cross. This put Jesus in a situation of great struggle because He would experience great suffering, not only physical suffering, but also mental suffering.

The suffering of the soul that Jesus endured was great because Jesus bore the sins of all mankind That is why He is called the Redeemer, the Savior who atones all the sins of mankind.

The illustration is, if we have a brother who does something shameful in society, then we will also be ashamed of his actions. It makes us feel bad because we feel embarrassed, moreover if we have to bear or pay for our brother’s crimes. This causes mental anguish that can make a person so depressed, so discouraged, that it can even result in physical pain.

Thus, what Jesus experienced in Gethsemane was the beginning in bearing the sins of mankind. That was great suffering, even though Jesus had not experienced physical suffering because Jesus had not been crucified. But the suffering in His soul was so great that Jesus said,”Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Jesus surrendered everything so that everything would be according to God’s will, because He did not want it according to His own will.

Jesus Gave His Life on the Cross to Atone for Human Sins

This intense suffering made Jesus so frightened and earnestly prayed that His sweat became like drops of blood.

John 10: 17-18 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

Jesus really wanted to lay down His life to redeem us, even though He was the Son of God, a powerful God. Jesus was willing to lay down His life because He loves us and on His own decision, He was willing to lay down His life.

Jesus would have been able to escape from being arrested that night and He would have been able to escape from the crucifixion because He was a very powerful Son of God. But He didn’t do it because He was willing to give Himself as a sacrifice so that by His death, we are saved.

That is the only way for humans to be redeemed from their sins, which is by the death of Jesus on the cross because His blood was shed, and He became a sacrifice to replace us. It should be us who should be punished, suffer, but He bore it for us.

Jesus could cry out to the Father so that He would immediately send more than twelve troops of angels to help Jesus (Matthew 26: 53-54). Whereas one angel of God sent to earth alone can kill 185,000 people in the Assyrian camp. How extraordinary it would be if He sent twelve troops (about 80,000 people), but He did not do it because Jesus had to fulfill the prophecies of the prophets.

2 Kings 19:35, “And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.”

Jesus knew that He had to fulfill the prophecies of the Old that there would be a Savior, and that Savior would suffer and die. If Jesus used His power, how would all the prophecies in the Scriptures be fulfilled? Why did He do it? Because He loves you and me, and He knows without redemption, we will not be saved. But because God himself was willing to sacrifice, we are saved.

Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. (Matthew 26:45)

Jesus took the decision to be arrested, to go through great suffering. Finally, he was beaten, humiliated, and died on a cross.

Isaih 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

It is true that Someone has to pay for our sins, Someone must be willing to suffer for us, Someone has to bear it, otherwise, we must be punished forever, and Jesus is the One who bore it.

He who was tormented so that we could be delivered, He who was humiliated so that we would not be humiliated, He who suffered so that we might be healed.

Today, Jesus wants to atone for your sins as long as you believe and accept Him as Lord and Savior.

By the stripes of Jesus We Are Healed

John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

From now on, we have a Father in heaven who really loves us and longs to help us, and the Father has sent Jesus to atone for our sins so that we can be saved and become children of God.

It is in accordance with Isaiah 53: 5 that by His stripes we are healed, no matter what the disease is, God knows that sickness makes us suffer, so He gave His stripes so that we could be healed.

For those who are sick, lay your hand on the part of the body that is sick, and pray, have faith that Jesus is able to heal you. Jesus Christ still performs miracles, because He is the same yesterday, today and forever. [yf/hn/em]
