The online KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) took place on Monday, April 5, 2021, through the Live Streaming program which can be watched on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from Matthew 27: 32-38, about Jesus being crucified and Matthew 27: 45-54 about Jesus died on the cross.
Jesus Suffered Terribly, Tormented, and Was Crucified Like a Criminal
We may ask, “Is Jesus really the Saviour, the Messiah, who was promised by God?” Jesus truly is the Son of God. The proof is that everything that Jesus did had been prophesied by the prophets.
For instance, after Jesus was crucified, they divided His clothes and cast lots. Here, Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of David, a prophet, 1000 years before Jesus was born, exactly as it happened. If it weren’t for God’s work, it couldn’t have happened.
Psalm 22:18, They divided my clothes among them, and they cast lots over my robe.
Then, Isaiah 53: 5 says, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
The prophet Isaiah had this 700 years before Jesus went up to the cross. The birth of Jesus was not accidental, and being born in the city of Bethlehem had also been prophesied. Before Jesus was crucified, Jesus was flogged and that was why His body had stripes.
Matthew 27:26, Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.
Being scourged, meaning tortured, Jesus was flogged many times, more than 100 times, by the Roman soldiers. It was extremely painful because each end of the whip had a metal that can rip off the flesh. That was what made Jesus’ body had stripes, according to prophecy.
Jesus did suffer physically and mentally as well. He was ridiculed and insulted in such a way.
Matthew 27: 29-30, When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
Jesus was spat on and they took a reed and hit Him on the head.
Matthew 27: 37-38, And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left.
The next insult, Jesus was crucified with two thieves, one on His right and one on His left. Jesus was very humiliated. It was considered a big criminal for those who died on the cross.
Jesus Died on the Cross in Substitute for Us
Matthew 27:45, Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.
Jesus experienced tremendous suffering for three hours, what an indescribable pain that Jesus went through. After being beaten, flogged, his body had stripes and then crucified with both feet put into one and then nailed, and his hands were also nailed.
Matthew 27:46, “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Why did Jesus cry out: Eli, Eli Lama sabaktani? This was not only a cry of tremendous pain, but Jesus felt what it would be like to be punished by God, to be left by God in the fire of hell, to be left alone in the darkest darkness, like the Word of God in Matthew 8:12, “While the sons of the Kingdom will be cast into the darkest darkness, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
If we are sentenced to prison, we still have cellmates, but in hell, it is completely alone. You and I should have been punished for sin and the reward is death. But Jesus died on the cross in our place. Jesus did it because he loves us and knew we couldn’t pay for our sins.
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
If you believe in Jesus, your sins are forgiven, because Jesus had paid them on the cross. Maybe you are thinking, who can save me? It is Jesus who is able to save us. Whoever believes in Him will receive forgiveness from God and receive eternal life. For on the third day, Jesus rose and lived.
If we believe in Jesus, according to God’s Word in John 1:12, we are no longer strangers, but we are the children of God.
Jesus Is Still The Same, He Can Still Heal You
Isaiah 53: 5, But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Jesus was pierced for our rebellion, Jesus was crushed for our iniquities, the rewards that brought salvation to us were inflicted on Jesus. And by His stripes we are healed. Believe in the Word of God, then we will receive healing.
Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13: 8). He who rose the dead, He who fed the five thousand, have faith in Jesus. Jesus can heal you. Lay your hands on the sick area of your body and pray with faith. He will surely heal you. [rs/hn/em]
