The Word of God preached by Pastor Jacob B Sumbayak with the theme “Five Loaves and Two Fishes” taken from Mark 6:30-44
Jesus moved with compassion to much people
At that time Jesus and the disciples wanted to retire to a quiet place after they had done a lot of ministry. They don’t even have time to eat.
But many people know their purpose, so many people from various cities preceded the journey of Jesus and His disciples.
Although Jesus and His disciples did not have time to eat and needed to rest, but when Jesus saw much people, He moved with compassion toward them.
In a state of hunger and not resting, Jesus continued to teach thousands of people who came until the evening began
In another verse, it is said that Jesus fed 5000 men. So, if it is assumed that a husband brings one wife and one child, then there are at least around 15.000 people who must be fed.
So, when Jesus said to His disciples “Give ye them to eat!” Then the disciples panicked and they say unto Him “Shall we go and buy two hundred penny worth of bread, and give them to eat?”
200 dinars if converted to Rupiah is around 30 million rupiah (200 dinars is equivalent to a value of 30 million rupiah , because 1 dinar is a day’s wages for workers, so if we consider the wages of workers one day now, is slightly above regional minimum wage, then we assume 150.000 multiplied by 200 = 30 million rupiah). Even that amount of food if you buy food, is not enough for that many people.
But Jesus knew the condition and said in Mark 6:38
“He saith unto them, how many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.”
Enough with five loaves and two fishes
Narrated in Mark 6:39-44
“And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
And they did all eat, and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes. And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men. And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.”
Bread and fish were distributed and continuously distributed to the people in each group, and they all ate until they are full. When the remaining pieces of bread are collected, there are 12 full baskets, not including the remnants of the fish.
Jesus are able to perform extraordinary miracles.
How can these five loaves and two fishes feed 15.000 people? Jesus was able to perform miracles because He truly was the child of God promised to the Israelites. He truly came from heaven, He is the Messiah promised by God to the sons of men.
He is able to help you
If you are currently have a lot of problems, maybe economic, work, family or health problems, remember about this event that Jesus is able to feed 15.000 people with only five loaves and two fishes
If we want to believe in Jesus, then He is able to perform miracles, whatever we need.
