The online KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) was held again on Monday, June 4, 2020 through a live stream program on Facebook and YouTube. The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from Luke 4: 31-37 about Jesus delivering the demon- possessed man. Followed by Luke 4: 38-41 about Jesus healing Simon Peter’s mother-in-law and other sick people.

Jesus Restored a Demon-Possessed Man

On the Sabbath, the day when Jews gathered in the synagogue to hear the Word of God, Jesus taught in the Synagogue. Verse 32 says that the characteristic of Jesus teaching is that His words are full of power. Luke 4: 33-34 say, “ In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

Apparently among those present at the synagogue, there was one who had an evil spirit inside him. It could be that when he entered a normal course, but because Jesus taught with power from God, then one of the people who did have this evil spirit, suddenly shouted in a very loud voice. It’s not the loud noise that hurts the person being possessed, but the loud voice because the demons were very scared. Why? Because they saw that there was Jesus and they knew Jesus was the Son of the Holy God. Satan was very afraid to face Jesus, because they knew this was the Son of God who had the authority to torment them. They were not only afraid of being expelled from the body of the person, but were very afraid that that day was the time they would be destroyed.

Like when the Lord Jesus cast out demons in Gadarenes, in Matthew 8-29, the Word of God said “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” Almost the same as the above, the demons knew that this was God who had the right to punish them, one day they would be thrown into the lake of fire forever, so the devil was horrified and afraid that the time would come.

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Shut up, come out of him!” And the devil threw the man into the midst of the crowd, then came out of him and did not hurt him at all. Jesus never compromised, never asked what the will of the devil. He immediately rebuked and yelped the demons without fulfilling his request. And the devil was all afraid of Jesus.

And all the people were amazed, then said to one another, he said, “How wonderful these words are! Because with full authority and authority He gave orders to the evil spirits and they came out.” People were amazed at the power of Jesus who ordered evil spirits to come out and those evil spirits to come out. Humans are very afraid of evil spirits or demons, so sometimes for the sake of safety want to compromise to meet the demands of demons. In fact, when meeting with Jesus, the demons were so frightened and horrified, knowing they would one day be tortured by this Son of God and be punished in a sea of eternal fire.

Then news about Him spread everywhere in the area. Indeed, it is very extraordinary news. And even today the news is extraordinary, that Jesus can free people from Satan’s bondage. So, if you have been bound by the power of darkness, believe in Jesus for He is able to free you from the bondage of Satan.

Jesus Heals Various Kinds of Sicknesses

Next, Jesus went to Simon’s house. As for Simon’s mother-in-law, she had a high fever, if using the current measurement, it might be around 40 degrees. So, they asked Jesus to help her.

You can imagine if you have a fever of 40 degrees, you must be weak and shiver. Then Jesus stands next to you, rebuking the fever, and you are immediately normal.  It’s such a very extraordinary thing. Even today, if we take medicine to reduce fever, it takes time to get the temperature back to normal, but when Jesus rebuked the fever in the body of Simon’s mother-in-law, the fever immediately disappeared. How do we know that the fever was gone? Because it was written that Simon’s mother-in-law immediately got up and served Jesus and His disciples.

Then, when the sun goes down everyone brings sick people with various diseases. Jesus laid hands on them and healed them. Satan also came out from the sick people, because the demons knew Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God in power. So, they were very scared and left.

Brothers and sisters, if we believe in Jesus, and we rely on Jesus as our helper, don’t be afraid. There is no power of darkness that can possess you. Even if you are bound by the power of darkness, but you want to believe in Jesus, you will be freed.

Jesus is able to deliver us from any darkness power. He is very powerful, but He was willing to be born as a human and died on the cross in order to forgive our sins. Let’s trust in Him. If you have problems in your family or any problems in your life or you have illnesses, know that Jesus is able to help and heal you. Because He is the Son of God and by His stripes we are healed.

Remember that Jesus healed all the sick who were brought to him. Believe in Jesus, you will also receive healing. All you need to do is to have faith in Him. [YF/EM]
