The KPPI (Divine Healing Praise Service) was held online through the live-stream program on Facebook and YouTube on Monday, June 1, 2020. God’s Word was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from John 9: 1-12 and 35-41, about the blind man from birth who was healed by the Lord Jesus.
God’s Work Must Be Displayed
The Word of God that we read teaches that not all people are sick because they sin. There is such a thing, but it could also be that someone experiences illness because God’s work will be revealed. Seeing this blind man, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” The disciples asked this because they saw this person blind from birth.
But Jesus’ answer might astonished the disciples, because He said, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Not everyone is sick because of sin. So, not that person or his parents sinned, but God’s work must be revealed through him. That is, he will be healed by God, so it is evident that God does work and God’s work was manifested in him, so that God’s name is glorified and also so that he knows God. Jesus also said,” As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.“ Maybe you ask, “What about me?” Brothers and sisters, as long as Jesus is here, or while it is still daytime, Jesus can work in your life today.
Jesus Has Different Ways to Heal and Resurrect the Dead
Then what the Lord Jesus did, “ After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam”
The healing methods used by Jesus this time are unique. There were indeed many ways that Jesus did to heal people. Some were touched by God and then healed. Then there was also a leper who reached out to Jesus, then Jesus said, “I am willing,” “Be clean!”, and that leper man was healed. There was also a woman who was healed when she touched the edge of His robe.
There was also a centurion who only said, “Your servant will be healed,” then the servant of the officer was healed. There were also 10 lepers who were told to go to the priest without being touched by Jesus, and on the way to the priest, they were healed of their leprosy.
Likewise, there are many ways that Jesus did to raise the dead. There was time when He did it with a normal voice, when Jesus approached the stretcher of a young man’s corpse in Nain and said, “O young man, rise up,” then the young man rose from the dead. There was also time when Jesus resurrected Lazarus, who had been dead for four days, was buried, smelled bad, Jesus called him in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out”, then Lazarus rose and lived. And also for the 12-year-old Jairus’ daughter who had just died, Jesus held her hand and said, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl woke up.
This time He rubbed the wet ground with spit on the blind man’s eyes and said to him, “Go, wash yourself in the pool of Siloam.” This blind man did not ask Jesus and actually did not know Jesus, but Jesus did want to show that He loved that person and wanted God’s work to be revealed, and when he went to wash in the Pool of Siloam, then he returned with opened eyes. He did not know Jesus, but he was told to go to the Pool of Siloam, he had little knowledge, but wanted to believe in Jesus, so his blind eyes from birth were opened.
It surprised his neighbours who often saw him as a beggar, as well as an evil Pharisee who always wanted to find fault with Jesus. They asked how his eyes could be opened. However, the blind man who did not know who Jesus was and did not know where Jesus was, all he knew that Jesus had healed him.
After being interrogated and mocked by the Pharisees, this blind man testified about Jesus, saying, “If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.“. As a result of his words he was thrown out. Then, what did Jesus do? Verses 35-38 say that Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
Brother and sisters, more than healing, Jesus wants to save this person, so that person knows who He is. He wants to tell who healed him. Indeed, this person has testified that it is impossible if not from God can heal a person who was blind from birth. However, he did not know who Jesus really was. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
So, Jesus approached and introduced himself who he was, so that this person would know who healed him. When asked by Jesus, that person really wants to believe, and wants to know who healed him. “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.” Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped Him.
Jesus, Son of God Who Became Man to Redeem Sin
Jesus said He was the Son of Man. He is God himself, the Word itself. He is called the Son of Man because God wants to be human, wants to talk and redeem humans. That is the love of God.
Who is His Only Begotten Son? Jesus Christ. He became a human being to say he loves and wants to die to bear the sins of us all. Because all human beings have sinned and cannot bear their sins, even 0.1 gram nobody can bear it. Jesus came to bear it and what is the payment? Himself! He fell victim like a lamb to be slaughtered.
Brothers and sisters, will you believe in Jesus and have your sins forgiven? Whoever wants to know Him will be given the power to become a child of God so that he may call Him Father (John 1:12). Jesus also wants to heal you. He is able to heal the blind man, He can also heal you. Isaiah 53: 5 says “By His stripes we are healed.” Believe in Him that whatever your illness tonight, believe that Jesus is able to heal you. [YF/EM]
