The online KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) was held again on Monday, May 25, 2020 through a live-stream program on Facebook and YouTube. The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from Luke 17: 11-19, about the ten lepers.
Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy
When Jesus entered a village, ten lepers came to meet him. They just stood at a distance and shouted: “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” These ten lepers stood a little far away because at that time lepers were considered unclean, so they could not be near, so they stood some distance away. However, they knew Jesus was passing by, and they should have heard the name of Jesus and surely they already knew that Jesus could perform miracles of healing for lepers. But because they could not get close, from a distance, they shouted, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
Then, Jesus looked at them and said: “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” This time Jesus did not touch them, like when Jesus healed a leper in Matthew 8: 3. There was a leper who came, then bowed down and worshiped Jesus and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.
At that time, Jesus healed people by reaching out and touching. But this time Jesus only said from a distance, “Go and show yourself to the priests.” According to Judaism at that time, anyone who had leprosy, if he felt healed, he must go to the priest to get confirmation whether he had recovered from his leprosy or not. So, usually the person who came to the priest is the person whose leprosy had disappeared.
Jesus told them to go when in fact they were still in leprosy, maybe their hands were still sores or stumps, we don’t know. But in that still sick condition, Jesus had told them to go to the priests and say they were healed.
These ten lepers believed in what Jesus said, they took the step of faith to go to the priests. Right, while they were gone, halfway they were clean. Maybe they were surprised that their hands became smooth again, or their legs became normal again, or their ears or face became normal again. To be sure, the ten lepers followed what Jesus said and all of them were healed.
One of the Healed Leper Came to Jesus and Was Saved
One of the ten lepers, when he saw that he was healed, returned while glorifying God in a loud voice, maybe he was cheering, maybe he was praising God, maybe raising his hand and wanting to return to meet Jesus. Then in verse 16 it says, he fell down at Jesus’ feet and thanked Him.
And interestingly, that person was a Samaritan. At that time Jews and Samaritans were enemies. And for Jews, the Samaritans were unclean. But why can these ten lepers be together when they were Samaritans and Jews? It could be because they were both ostracized, they became friends. But even if they were together, those who came back to Jesus were not from the Jews, but from the Samaritans.
Jesus asked, none of them returned to glorify God other than this stranger? Jesus did not see whether he was a Jew or a Samaritan, Jesus loved all of them, so because they all believed in Jesus they were all healed, but because this person knew to be thankful and came to Jesus, He said to the person: “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” This man had received the miracle of healing, but because he came again to Jesus, he received another blessing from the Lord Jesus, namely salvation.
Jesus Died to Atone for Our Sins
Brothers and sisters, we can see how Jesus loves everyone. Jesus loves all nations. Will you believe in Jesus? Do you really know that God loves you and God knows you? God does not look at appearance, status and class, but God looks at the heart and faith.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came down from Heaven, and He loves all humans and even in Romans 5: 8 says that God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Brothers and sisters, who wants to die for sinners, for those who kill, commit adultery, steal, oppose God and do evil deeds? But the Word of God said that God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
And the Word of God in John 10:11 says that He is a good shepherd. And the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep of his shepherd. That is proof of God’s love, He gave His life for us, sacrificed for us.
Brethren, would you like to believe in Jesus? If you want, make a sincere decision to believe in Jesus. The Word of God in John 1:12 says, but all those who accepted Him were given the power to become God’s children, those who believe in His name.
Jesus Is Able to Heal All Sicknesses
For those of you who are sick, the Lord Jesus also wants to heal. You have seen that Jesus was able to perform miracles, these 10 lepers were simply told to go and show themselves to the priest and before reaching the priest, they were healed.
2000 years ago, Jesus performed many miracles, even people who had died for 4 days and already stunk in the tomb, could be raised by Jesus. The blind could be healed by Jesus. Jesus is able to perform miracles and healing for us as well.
The Word of God in Isaiah 53: 5 says: “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him,and by his wounds we are healed.” Whatever your illnesses, whether cancer, AIDS, HIV, Covid-19, paralysis or blindness or mental problems, Jesus is able to heal you. Tonight or when you hear this broadcast, this is the moment for you to believe in the Word of God. By Jesus’ stripes you are healed. [YF/EM]
