KPPI (God’s Praise and Healing Service) online took place on Thursday, July 7, 2022 through a Live Streaming program that can be watched via Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
The word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, taken from Luke 19:1-9 about Zacchaeus.
Zaccheus, the Tax Collector, Forgiven by Jesus
Zacchaeus was a rich man, his position was chief tax collector, a high position at that time, given by the Roman government to Zacchaeus. But the Israelis did not like tax collectors, especially their chiefs, because they were seen as accomplices of the Roman invaders. Tax collectors really like to extort people and corrupt money from tax collections. Some of the tax money went into the pocket and the rest went into the state treasury.
However, this very rich and high-ranking person suddenly climbed the tree. Imagine if in these days there is a rich, executive officer with full uniform suddenly climbs up a tree without shame, just to see the Lord Jesus.
Zacchaeus must have heard about Jesus, about the miracles he did and about the goodness of the Lord Jesus. So when Jesus passed by his city, Jericho, he wanted to meet Jesus. But because he was short, he climbed up the tree.
What happened? Jesus recognized and called Zacchaeus by name. He is the Son of God who knows all things and knows what is in the hearts of men.
Luke 19:5
When Jesus got to that place, He looked up and said: “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.”
Zacchaeus who was considered an enemy of the people because he was considered a stooge of the invaders, Jesus wanted to stay at his house. Zacchaeus was overjoyed, grateful. The Messiah was willing to come to his house and eat with him. This was a sign that Jesus was willing to accept and forgive him.
Zacchaeus knew he was a sinner and had to repent, but did not know how to repent. How to meet God? So, when Jesus wanted to come to his house, he knew that Jesus would forgive him. He was really happy.
Luke 19:8
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord: “Lord, I will give half of what I have to the poor and if I have extorted anything from someone I will give back four times as much.”
The sign of Zacchaeus’ repentance was that he was willing to give half of his wealth to the poor. If Zacchaeus had assets, for example 100 billion rupiah, he would give 50 billion rupiah to the poor. Not only that, because Zacchaeus said that if he extorted anything, it would be returned 4 times.
We need to know, not because of this offering that he was forgiven, but as a sign that he had been forgiven, he gave all of this.
Luke 19:9-10
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.”
This is the heart of God, He came to seek and save that which was lost.
Everyone Who Believes in Jesus Will Have Eternal Life
Just as Zacchaeus was lost and God came to save him, the Lord Jesus, who loves mankind very much, whoever it is, also comes to you.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
God knows that we cannot atone for our sins, we cannot. There is nothing we can use or do to atone for our sins. All humans have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23-24).
Salvation is given to everyone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not able to save ourselves because God is willing to die on the cross, so that we can be saved.
Will you believe in Him? Like Zacchaeus, he knew there was no forgiveness except for coming to Jesus and Jesus was willing to reach out to forgive him.
Then Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak leads in prayer to accept the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior.
For those of you who have accepted Jesus, they are called believers and children of God (John 1:12). Praise God, rejoice in our new status. May the peace and joy of the Lord be with you.
By Jesus’ stripes We Are Healed
For those of you who are sick, this is the time to ask for healing from Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:24
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we, who died to sin, might live to righteousness. By His stripes you have been healed.
The stripes are the marks of the lashes that Jesus received from the cruel Roman soldiers. Jesus was flogged many times before He was told to carry the cross, and was hanged on the cross. God’s word firmly says you are healed, so have faith that you are healed because someone has borne it, and because of the stripes of Jesus we are healed.
This is a gift and a miracle from God therefore prepare your heart and put one hand on the aching body part, and the other hand is raised to pray. If a child or family member is sick, lay your hands on the sick child or family.
Whatever the sickness is, nothing is impossible for God, He is able to heal.
Then Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak leads the healing prayer. [rs/em]
