The Online Program of KPPI (Praise and Divine Healing Service) was held on Monday, July 18, 2022. It was a live-streaming program that could be watched on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The Word of God was delivered by Rev. Jacob B. Sumbayak, and taken from Luke 10:25–37 about the Good Samaritan.
What Must We Do to Gain Eternal Life?
From the Word of God that we read, we learn that even though this scribe came with insincere intentions and wanted to test Jesus, the question was good. This could be our question too, namely, how and what must I do to get eternal life?
This lawyer could convey the essence of all the law, which is to love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, four aspects of human life. Then, love your neighbour as yourself. Jesus said that their answer was right and taught to do so, then they would live and would go to Heaven.
The Lord Jesus taught that entering heaven or obtaining eternal life, not because of many deeds or offerings or because of diligent prayer in the synagogue. But we will go to heaven if we love God. And if we love God in the four aspects of human life, then we can also love our fellow human beings.
Knowing People from the Parable of the Good Samaritan
Luke 10:30-37 that we read the parable of the good Samaritan. It is said that there was a Jewish priest who was a religious leader. Then there was a Levite who was also a religious leader, but was below the level of the priest. Lastly, there was a Samaritan who was not a religious leader. He was even despised by the Jews because of his Jewish descent mixed with nations who did not know God.
But when they saw the man who was lying half dead from being robbed, the priest and the Levite did not want to help. Meanwhile, the Samaritan, who was not a religious leader, had compassion on this man who was on the verge of death. He sacrificed his time, was willing to walk, and took care when he arrived at the inn. He gave money to the guards to cover the maintenance costs and paid for it if there was a shortage. From this parable, Jesus taught us to love our fellow human beings as an expression of loving God. [yf/em]
